STIR/SHAKEN

STIR/SHAKEN is a protocol mandated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that obligates voice providers to verify the accuracy of caller ID information for outgoing calls. When these calls are completed, providers relay the verification from the originating voice provider. Prior to the implementation of STIR/SHAKEN, malicious actors could easily impersonate the caller ID of legitimate businesses, misleading users into answering fraudulent calls. This protocol is a crucial advancement in the fight against illegal and unsolicited robocalls.

To meet STIR/SHAKEN requirements, voipography signs outgoing calls and verifies caller ID authenticity, ensuring that terminating carriers trust the call traffic from voipography and route it to the correct recipients. The success of STIR/SHAKEN depends on both originating and terminating carriers adhering to this authentication and verification process. It's important to note that not all carriers have achieved STIR/SHAKEN compliance.
